The bill that needed another look
A good electricity deal does not look after itself. Prices change. Offers change. The bill keeps arriving. This household had used Bill Hero for several years to keep that job moving, changing retailers repeatedly along the way. According to the customer, much of the switching happened automatically through the service.
By July 2026, the household was on GloBird's WHOLESAVE plan. On 19 August, an email from Bill Hero reported $19,453 in lifetime savings across 63 bills. It was an eye-catching number, but it was the service's own reported total. We wanted a result we could check against the recent bills.
Once the bills through 31 August arrived, we had 57 days of actual electricity costs. We took the same observed usage and calculated what it would have cost on the household's former Nectr tariff. That gave us a comparison using the same electricity, over the same period.
The two GloBird bills totalled $848, including the retailer's membership charge. On the former tariff, that usage would have cost about $1,096. The difference was roughly $248, or 23%, including GST. That comparison covered electricity; gas and Bill Hero's service fees were separate.
Having someone keep an eye on the bills also cost money. The records show a $49 annual Bill Hero subscription for 2026–27 and a $25 assisted-switch charge in 2025. We do not have a complete account of every service fee over the years, so the lifetime figure is not an audited net saving. Nor does a good result over these 57 days promise the same saving next year.
For this household, the recent bills put a tangible result behind the ongoing reviews: about $248 less for that period's electricity, before Bill Hero's fees. The reason to keep reviewing was just as tangible. There would be another bill, and another chance for a once-good deal to stop being one.
Bill Hero is an optional paid service, and Bulk may receive a referral benefit. Another household's result will depend on its usage, available offers and fees.

The lifetime tally’s full calculation basis, start date and treatment of fees have not been independently verified. The 57-day comparison uses the same observed consumption on both tariffs and includes GloBird membership charges. It does not include BillHero fees or gas.
